The LGBT+ pride march in Mexico City will celebrate its 44th edition on June 25, 2022 under the motto “For the women who are here and for those who are no longer here” and, for the first time since 2019, it will be totally face-to-face, organizers announced.
“We demand that authorities, society, and our community pay attention to this,” said Ythan Dewi, one of the organizers, during the presentation conference of the event, which was attended by the artists who will attend the march and those who will perform in the Zócalo.
Furthermore, he spoke of the importance of making lesbian, bisexual, and trans women visible within the group, where they are still secondary in the community.
Angelo Diep, singer and main promoter of the march, insisted on the need to continue advocating for the rights of the community in a country where the legal protection framework has advanced -mainly at the state level, where, for example, equal marriage exists in 26 of 32 states – but also where an average of six LGBT+ people are murdered each month.
“In Mexico, the LGBTTIQ+ populations have been achieving a legal framework that increasingly allows us the full exercise of our sexual freedoms and human rights, what still holds us back is ignorance and the feeling of repudiation of society towards diversity”.
For this, he said, It is important to have more allied personalities and members of the community who defend the path of equality every year.
One of those present at the conference -albeit virtually- was Jhonny Caz, a member of the renowned regional Mexican band Grupo Firme and who will be the first grupero to be crowned king of the march.
The young man, who recently made public his courtship with another man, expressed his gratitude not only to the organizers of the event but also to his followers and to Mexican society.
“I am happy, delighted. If this time I can support a community that has filled me with love, that has kept me strong, that has pushed me and I can reciprocate, my willingness is completely”, expressed the artist.
Renowned personalities such as the vedette Lyn May, the actress and model Carmen Campuzano, the influencer and comedian Mario Aguilar, and the singer Raymix or La Factoría, among others, were also present.
The parade will be on June 25 at the iconic roundabout of the Angel of Independence in Mexico City and will travel along Paseo de la Reforma avenue -the capital’s main thoroughfare- to reach the Zócalo, where there will be a party and music.
In the years 2020 and 2021, the celebration had been canceled due to the pandemic, taking place virtually with concerts and participation via streaming. In 2020, actress and singer Thalía kicked off the celebration and spoke of the importance of reaffirming Pride in the midst of turbulent times.
In addition to the celebration in CDMX, it has been announced that the Pride March will be held in person in many cities in Mexico at the end of June, including Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, and Acapulco, among dozens of others.
